Developing a Game Plan: How to Think Strategically About Your Career
10am - 12pm
Location: American University Ward Circle Building - Room # TBD
Details: As young professionals, we often face challenges when determining our career path.  We spend a significant amount of time thinking about our passions, skills and abilities, educational attainment, and the type of lifestyle that we want to lead, all of which are extremely important to our personal and professional growth.  This interactive seminar is designed to help us to think through some of these decisions. For more information, please see the following attachment.  Agenda.pdf

Lunch
12pm - 12:55pm

Get-to-Know-You Activity: I4RC Alumni Bingo
1:00pm - 1:15pm
Location: American University Ward Circle Building - Room # TBD
Details: Alums get identical, pre-printed bingo cards (sheets of paper) with 30 clues regarding participant biographical information, class attributes, or Institute history. Their goal is to get as many unique signatures as possible in 15 minutes. Will reveal the answers to a few of the more difficult clues at the end of the activity. The winner gets a prize.

Alumni Network Focus Group
1:20 pm - 2:20pm
Location: American University Ward Circle Building - Room # TBD
Details: As a follow-up to the morning workshop's focus on individual success, this activity is designed to get alums thinking about and articulating what kind of tools/programming they'd like to see created to support our collective success. The Alumni Association officers will make a brief presentation that outlines different approaches to developing the identity/purpose of our alumni network (which will include tangible examples from similar organizations), and then have alumni split into small groups to provide feedback to the presentation/craft models for the kind of tools/programming that they'd like to have serve them. The small groups will present their feedback and then all alums will provide dot ratings for the tools/programming that they like the most/least.

Break
2:20pm - 2:40pm

Inside the Institute Studio (scholars and alums)
2:45pm - 3:45pm
Location: American University Ward Circle Building - Room # TBD
Details: Modeled on the TV show, "Inside the Actors Studio," there would be a 30-40 minute structured interview (questions about their life, career, challenges, secrets to their success followed by the infamous 10 Questions) of a distinguished alum or program guest followed by another 20-30 minutes of Q&A from the audience. The idea would be to create a vehicle for scholars and alums to get to know a familiar figure in an unfamiliar way and also create a shared experience between scholars and alums that could be conversation fodder at the BBQ. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inside_the_Actors_Studio
